Stopgap 400 is a high-performance, protein-free smoothing underlayment designed to deliver a perfectly level surface prior to the installation of a wide range of floor coverings. Manufactured by F. Ball, this reliable compound is ideal for both commercial and domestic flooring projects where strength, smoothness, and fast turnaround are essential.

Formulated with advanced cement technology, Stopgap 400 offers excellent self-smoothing properties and can be applied from 3mm up to 40mm thickness, making it suitable for both thin applications and bulk fill requirements. Its protein-free composition ensures compatibility with moisture-sensitive adhesives and floor coverings such as LVT, vinyl, and rubber, reducing the risk of biological degradation.

This versatile levelling compound can be applied over concrete, sand/cement screeds, and other suitably prepared subfloors when used with the appropriate F. Ball primer. It provides a strong, durable base with high compressive strength, helping to prevent movement and imperfections beneath the finished floor.

Stopgap 400 also benefits from a low odour formulation, making it ideal for use in occupied environments such as homes, offices, schools, and healthcare settings. With a walk-on time of approximately 3–4 hours and readiness to receive floor coverings in as little as 24 hours, it helps keep projects on schedule.
